Connect a Trakt account to Showtime

Showtime stores nothing of its own. Your watch history, watchlist and ratings live in a free Trakt account, and Showtime reads and writes to it. This page covers the sign-in itself, then the two situations that trip people up: arriving from guest mode, and being asked to reconnect.

Signing in

  1. Open Showtime and tap Continue with Trakt. On a first launch this appears after the introduction screen.
  2. Authorise Showtime on the page that opens. It opens in the system browser on trakt.tv, not inside the app. If you do not have a Trakt account, create one from that same page.
  3. Wait for the return. The browser hands you back to Showtime automatically. The button then reads through three states while your data loads: connecting, fetching your shows, preparing your tracking.
  4. Let the first sync finish. Showtime holds the sign-in screen until your shows are loaded and the Up Next list is built. Watched movies and recent history keep loading in the background once the app opens.

Showtime never sees your Trakt password. It receives a token, which is stored in the iOS Keychain on your device.

Coming from guest mode

Guest mode holds up to three shows and three movies on the device. Connecting an account is how you get past that.

When you sign in from guest mode, Showtime asks whether to add your saved titles to your Trakt watchlist. Answer yes and it checks each one first: anything already in your watchlist, or already marked watched on your account, is skipped. The rest go across in a single request.

The local copies are deleted only once that request succeeds. If it fails, or if you decline at the time, the import stays available later from the Account tab. Nothing is lost by saying no.

When Showtime asks you to reconnect

Trakt tokens expire and are renewed automatically in the background. You will not normally notice.

If Trakt refuses the renewal outright, Showtime deletes that token and shows a Reconnect Trakt screen. Signing in again restores normal service.

Signing out

From the Account tab. Showtime finishes clearing the local cache before it allows a new sign-in, so nothing from the previous account survives into the next one. You are returned to the start of the introduction flow.

Signing out of Showtime does not touch your Trakt account or anything stored on it.
